Non-indigenous students of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology have rejected the position of the management of the institution on the disparity in fees. The aggrieved students had yesterday staged a demonstration to draw attention to the discrimination against them, after which they were called to a meeting with the Vice Chancellor, Professor BLESSING DIDIA The non-indigene students have come out again to complain that they were not allowed to state their case during the meeting with the Vice Chancellor. One of the leaders of the aggrieved students, who gave this indication in an interview with our correspondent LEVI ISU, called on Governor NYESOM WIKE to intervene in the matter. The management of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology says evidence abound that students of the university pay the list fees compared to other state universities across Nigeria. The Vice Chancellor, Professor BLESSING DIDIA also said he inherited the disparity and had not at anytime directed an increase in school fees for either indigenes or non indigenous students. He described the protest by the students as ill-conceived and an attempt by misguided people to smear the reputation of the new leadership of the institution.
