The Minister of Health, Professor ISAAC ADEWOLE, said the revelation underscores the need to use the opportunity of the World Malaria Day to examine what needs to be done at all levels to reserve the trend.
Speaking at a ceremony in Abuja; Professor ADEWOLE said malaria disease remains a major public health problem in Africa in general, and constitutes a major barrier to social and economic development.
In his remarks, the Coordinator of the National Malaria Elimination Programme, Doctor MOHAMMED BALA stated that government has achieved results through the programme.
Also speaking, the National Professional Officer for Malaria of the World Health Organisation, LINDA OZOR, said that despite the decline in mortality rate, malaria still poses a huge threat to the nation.
This year’s World Malaria Day was observed yesterday based on the theme “End Malaria for Good”, with an accompanying slogan “What is Your Role?” ?
