The Moderator of the General Assembly of the PCN, Most Reverence NZIE EKE assured that God was aware of the challenges Nigerians were passing through, adding that He would make Nigeria to rise again.
The Prelate of the Presbyterian Church urged Nigerians to emulate the example of Prophet Nehemiah in the Bible who had the burden of repairing the walls of Jerusalem and approached the task through prayer and positive action.
The Most Reverend NZIE said like Prophet Nehemiah, Nigerians must approach the challenges with the right attitude so that God can transform Nigeria back to glory days.
The clergyman observed that part of the problem is because Nigeria has relied on the currently ailing oil industry for too long, while other key areas of the economy such as agriculture had been neglected.
He said failure to diversify the economy before now has been the nation’s greatest undoing, as industries have been allowed to collapse with thousands of people losing their jobs.
The PCN General Assembly Moderator noted that many who are still working are not being paid their salaries as and when due, just as pensioners are gnashing their teeth, while prices of commodities are skyrocketing as hunger spread across the land.
He called on President MUHAMMADU BUHARI to listen to the voice of well-meaning Nigerians who are calling on him to assemble a crack team of economic technocrats to help steer the nation out of recession.
The Presbyterian leader expressed appreciation of the President’s concern and his resolve to tackle the socio-political problems of this country, some of which he said have given rise to the clamour for restructuring.
He said the on-going war against insurgency and corruption as well as efforts geared towards diversification of the economy are noble steps for the restoration of national security and promotion of socio-economic transformation of the nation.
The PCN Prelate also enjoined the President in his fight against insurgency, to equally turn his attention to the need to rein in the Fulani herdsmen and stop their bloody killings.
He also said the fight against corruption deserves every support and encouragement in view of the devastating effects the malaise has left on the life of the nation.
