Officials said more than seventy others were injured as the blast hit the San Pablito fireworks market in Tultepec.
The BBC cited video from the scene showing a large number of fireworks rocketing into the air as they caught fire.
The cause of the explosions is not yet known, while dozens of paramedics and police have been attending to the victims of the incident.
