Sixteen of the contestants have dual citizenship, including nine Somali-Americans, as well as four with UK citizenship and three who naturalized in Canada.
It is expected that the elections, planned for early February, will mark a turning point for Somalia in the face of instability since the fall of the SIAD BARRE regime in 1991.
