The governor who gave the warning while swearing-in the chairmen at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Port Harcourt on Thursday, said the caution was necessary to stem unguarded desire of some council chairman to access money without any developmental plan.
The governor revealed that he prevented the immediate past chairmen from paying local government workers’ salaries following security reports and complains by some councillors and political appointees that they would not be paid their entitlements.
Wike said the state government would set up a committee to oversee the payments of all entitlements of immediate past chairmen, their political appointees and councillors.
