Former Arsenal manager and FIFA Chief of Global Football Development, Arsène Wenger, has welcomed FIFA’s decision to abandon its controversial proposal to sell a stake in the commercial rights of the FIFA World Cup to private investors.
Wenger described the decision as “absolutely necessary,” stressing the importance of maintaining transparency and protecting the integrity of world football.
He also clarified that he had no involvement in the proposed investment plan and only became aware of it through media reports.
The proposal, championed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, was withdrawn following widespread opposition from football governing bodies and national associations, many of which raised concerns over governance, transparency, and the commercialization of the FIFA World Cup.
