Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala scored the only goal as Nigeria secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Zambia in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Oshoala found the back of the net in the eighth minute after capitalising on a defensive lapse, giving the nine-time African champions an early lead that proved decisive.
Nigeria’s task became more difficult in the 39th minute when defender Oluwatosin Demehin was sent off following a VAR review, forcing the Super Falcons to play with 10 players for the remainder of the match. Despite the numerical disadvantage, the team produced a disciplined defensive display to keep Zambia at bay.
Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie made several crucial saves as Nigeria frustrated Zambia’s attack, including star forwards Barbra Banda and Racheal Kundananji, to preserve the slim advantage until the final whistle.
The victory sends the Super Falcons into the semi-finals as they continue their quest for a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title.
