The UNHCR said fifty thousand people have crossed the border since the fighting that broke out in the capital, Juba three weeks ago.
The agency also said another one thousand people have fled South Sudan to Kenyan, while additional seven thousand have sought refuge in Sudan.
Meanwhile; the United Nations has condemned reports of widespread sexual violence in South Sudan.
The UN is also investigating allegations that its troops did not do enough to protect women and minors from being raped.
The reaction is in response to the documentation of one hundred cases of assault and rape by men in army uniform and armed men in plain clothes in parts of South Sudan.
