The UN estimates that Nigeria accounts for over three hundred and five million Small Arms and Light Weapons.
The figure represents seventy percent of an estimated five hundred million Small Arms and Light Weapons that are in circulation in West Africa.
The revelations were made by the Director of United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Africa, OLATOKUNBO IGE.
The UN official was speaking at a National Consultation on Physical Security and Stockpile Management in Abuja, which was organised in partnership with the Presidential Committee on Smalls Arms and Light Weapons.
