Senator representing Anambra Central, Victor Umeh, has clarified that the Senate unanimously approved the electronic transmission of election results in the proposed amendments to the Electoral Act, contrary to public reports suggesting that lawmakers endorsed only a “transfer” of results.
Umeh explained that the legislative process leading to the amendment was thorough and deliberate, involving first and second readings, zonal public hearings, consultations with relevant stakeholders, and the consideration of reports from a joint committee of the National Assembly.
He noted that the steps taken underscore the Senate’s commitment to strengthening electoral transparency and credibility through clear legal backing for electronic transmission of results.
