Uganda opposition leader regains freedom

BESIGYE said he was fine and thanked people for their support, but added that his treatment had been a gross abuse of human rights:

Police detained him after they accused him of parking his vehicle in the middle of the road and inconveniencing other road users in the capital, Kampala.

However, a local journalist reported that BESIGYE, who is the leader of the Forum for Democratic Change, was on his way to address supporters when the police confronted him.

He also shared a video of BESIGYE being struck by a high pressure water canon fired from a police vehicle.

The journalist also shared another video showing police violently arresting BESIGYE.
