Two African countries –Senegal and Egypt – have won non-permanent seats in the United Nations Security Council for a two-year term.

 

Two African countries –Senegal and Egypt – have won non-permanent seats in the United Nations Security Council for a two-year term.
Also to assume seats at the Security Council are Japan, Uruguay and Ukraine, following an election yesterday.
The elections were held preparatory to the end of the tenure of Nigeria, Chad, Chile, Jordan and Lithuania in January next year.
The United States, Britain, France, China and Russia remain the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, with veto-powers.
