Three-Day Rainfall Triggers Severe Flooding in Oyigbo Communities

Residents of several communities in Oyigbo Local Government have raised concerns over severe flooding following three days of heavy rainfall.

They said the persistent downpour caused the collapse of soakaway pits and perimeter fences, leading to sewage spilling into streets and residential areas.

The affected communities include Graceland, Peace Estate, Oyigbo West, Umusia, Umuokobo, Umuwalia, Umuodogo, Poultry Road, Umuebereke and Umundinor.

Residents described the situation as a serious public health threat, warning that contaminated roads and drainage channels could expose people, particularly children, to cholera, typhoid and other waterborne diseases.

They appealed to the government to construct a permanent flood channel and an effective drainage system to prevent future flooding.
