The Rivers State Government has expressed concern about the implications of frequent changes in the leadership of security agencies in the state.
The government is particularly not comfortable with the redeployment of the State Director of the Department of State Service, and also fears that the State Commissioner of Police could be changed anytime soon. The Rivers State Government is questioning the justification for frequent changes of security chiefs in the state, which it believes was helping to compromise the security of the state. The Government reaction was contained in a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Media, ORAYE SAINT FRANKLYN.According to the statement; FRANKLYN wandered whether the Federal Government can absolve itself of complicity in the real or perceived state of insecurity in Rivers State. He also demanded to know whether a state governor that has provided leadership and logistics to support security agencies should be blamed for the inability of the agencies to tackle insecurity in the state. The Government’s social media spokesman alleged that efforts by Governor NYESOM WIKE to promote security were being undermined by institutions he accused of promoting partisanship. He claims that the alarm raised by the All Progressives Congress about insecurity in Rivers State was part of heightened efforts by the party to conquer the state by placing the blame on Governor WIKE and give the impression that he was not doing enough.
