The National Universities Commission, NUC, has published a list of fifty-six illegal institutions operating as universities and colleges in Nigeria and awarding degrees and certificates to unsuspecting members of the public.

In a publication earlier this week, the Executive Secretary of the NUC, Professor JULIUS OKOJIE, warned that certificates obtained from such institutions would not be accepted for the enrolment of graduates for the National Youth Corps Service scheme or for employment purposes.
The NUC Chairman said eight other institutions are still under investigation, and if found culpable, the operators would be made to face the law and refund fees collected from unsuspecting students.
