The Muslim community in Rivers state has staged a protest in Port Harcourt, over the continuous detention of the leader of Shiite movement in Nigeria, SHEIKH IBRAHIM ZAKZAKY who was arrested in connection to the clash between the group and military in Kaduna state.Correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR reports that the group stormed Woji slaughter road, carrying placards with different inscriptions like; “we want our leader released, “we want to see him alive”, “set him free let him speak to the world”.Some of the protesters described the continuous detention of ZAKZAKY as an injustice and demanded for his immediate and unconditional release.
The protesters also want the Nigeria Army to released over one hundred corpses of their members who were allegedly killed during the clash.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the Muslim Youth Forum, YUSHAU LAWAL expressed concern that the actions of the military has not only constituted human right abuses but has also turned a lot of women into widows and children into orphans.The protesters threatened to continue the protest in all the thirty six states of the federation.
