Suspected political thugs armed with machetes yesterday ambushed members of the All Progressives Congress in Abua-Odula Local Government Area of Rivers State.Our correspondent gathered that the APC members were travelling from Odual to Abua Central for a stakeholders meeting when they ran into the ambush.Reports later filtered into the venue of the APC event at Ayama, while party leaders confirmed that those who sustained injuries had been rushed to hospital.Meanwhile; the chairman of Justice of Peace in Abua-Odual, Professor FUBARA EGBONO has led over a thousand former PDP members from the thirteen wards in Abua-Odual to join the APC.Our correspondent who witnessed the reception of new members into the APC in Abua-Odual reports that there were also defectors from other parties, beyond the PDP.Professor EGBUNO who was received during the APC stakeholders meeting at Ayama, complained that he and his supporters were never given recognition in his former party.EGBUNO said they decided to join APC in the hope that they would be given a sense of belonging.In his remarks, the APC Chairman in Abua-Odual, GIFT LOVEDAY IGOMA expressed satisfaction with the number of participants in the party’s membership revalidation and registration exercise.IGOMA expressed confidence that with a APC-led administration at the federal level, the people of Abua-Odual would have equal opportunity to vote candidates of their choice in the forthcoming re-run elections Rivers State.The governorship running-mate of the APC in Rivers State, ASITA ASITA was also present at the reception in Abua Central, and stressed the need for members to work for hard to secure victory.
