A report by Economic Confidential indicates that the IGR of Lagos in 2015 was higher than those of thirty-two states of the federation combined, including the oil producing states of Rivers and Delta, as well as Ogun in the South-West.

Independent investigations by Economic Confidential put the IGR of Lagos State at two hundred and sixty-eight billion naira, as against two hundred and fifty-seven billion naira generated internally by the other thirty-two states combined.

Rivers State was ranked second in the IGR performance index, with eighty-two point one billion naira generated last year, while Delta State followed with forty point eight billion naira, and Ogun State at fourth position, with thirty-four point five-nine billion naira.

The report also uncovered fifteen states that are likely to hit bankruptcy, with Internally Generated Revenue that was far below ten percent of their allocation from the Federation Account.

The affected states are Yobe, Zamfara, Ekiti, Borno, Kebbi, Taraba, Nassarawa, Adamawa, Gombe, Jigawa, Bauchi, Katsina, Niger, and Sokoto.

Economic Confidential warned that the affected states may not survive without the Federation Account due to poor internal revenues.

Kano State is ranked as the richest in the north, finishing among the top ten on the national scale, while Ekiti is the poorest southern State.
