Senate Warns Against Misuse of Service-Wide Votes in 2026 Budget

The Nigerian Senate has warned that any government agency benefiting from service-wide votes without proper accountability will no longer be tolerated. Senator Adeola Olamilekan, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, stated that the 2026 budget would mark a decisive break from past spending practices.

Speaking at a one-day public hearing on the 2026 Appropriation Bill, Senator Olamilekan said every expenditure item would undergo strict scrutiny to ensure public funds are properly utilised. He emphasised that transparency and accountability would be key in the implementation of the upcoming budget.
