Senate Passes Two Major Tax Reform Bills, Moves Closer to Overhauling Nation’s Tax System

The Senate has successfully passed two of the four major tax reform bills, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing effort to overhaul the nation’s tax administration framework. The bills approved include one aimed at repealing the Federal Inland Revenue Service (Establishment) Act and another to establish the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill 2025, along with the Nigeria Revenue Service Bill 2025.

These bills were considered through a clause-by-clause review during the Committee of the Whole and subsequently underwent third reading on the Senate floor. Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised the progress made, expressing optimism that these reforms would not only improve governance but also revolutionize tax collection and revenue distribution across the country.
