The Senate has confirmed Joash Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Amupitan’s confirmation followed an extensive screening session that lasted over two hours on the floor of the Senate on Thursday. During the exercise, lawmakers questioned him on his plans to restore public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process and implement meaningful reforms within the commission.
In his responses, the newly confirmed INEC Chairman pledged to strengthen institutional integrity, enhance the transparency of election results, and deepen the use of technology to ensure credible and peaceful elections across the country.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, while announcing his confirmation, urged Amupitan to uphold fairness, neutrality, and professionalism in the discharge of his duties.
