The Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University (RSU), Professor Isaac Zep-Opibi, has charged engineering graduates of the institution to uphold the highest standards of integrity, service and professional conduct as they step into the wider world.

Professor Zep-Opibi made the call in his welcome address at the maiden Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) Oath Administration and Induction Ceremony of RSU engineering graduates into the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), held in Port Harcourt.

The Vice Chancellor, who was represented at the event by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Blessing Jaja, urged the newly inducted engineers to see themselves as problem solvers with a responsibility to make meaningful impact in society. He encouraged them to build a future not only for personal success but also for the development of their communities and the nation at large.

Delivering a goodwill message, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Jackson Akpa, described the induction as a defining milestone in the graduates’ professional journey. He noted that the ceremony formally welcomes them into the Nigerian engineering family and marks the beginning of their responsibilities as professionals.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Port Harcourt Branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Belemа Ekine, assured the graduates that their induction would provide them with access to professional mentorship and tutelage from experienced engineers. He encouraged them to take advantage of the opportunities within the society to enhance their skills and uphold ethical standards.

The maiden COREN oath and induction ceremony was described by stakeholders as a significant step in strengthening professional engineering practice and grooming competent engineers for national development.
