This was the outcome of today’s meeting between officials of the Rivers State Ministry of Education and leaders of the NUT.
Our correspondent LEVI ISU reports that the meeting at the office of the Commissioner of Education was also attended by officials of the primary and secondary schools boards.
After about one hour of discussions behind closed doors, the NUT leaders emerged with a stern look but declined to respond to questions about the outcome of their engagement.
However; it was gathered that the NUT was asked to withdraw the directive to teachers not to report for duty beginning from 12th September until their salaries are cleared.
The Chairman of the Secondary School Board, DAVID BRIGGS urged the NUT not to use maximum force in the pursuit of its demands.
BRIGGS noted that delay in the payment of salaries of teachers may not be unconnected with human errors in the biometric exercise.
