The Commissioner for Education, KANIYE EBEKU gave the indication while addressing members of the Implementation Task Team for Unesco Procter.
KANIYE EBEKU, who was speaking at the ceremony to mark this year’s World Literacy Day, said the state government recognizes education as a toll for development.
Meanwhile; the Deputy Governor of Rivers State has expressed hope that efforts to revive boarding schools in the state would help stimulate academic excellence.
In a statement to mark the fiftieth edition of the International Literacy Day, Doctor IPALIBO HARRY BANIGO said boarding schools would also help to restore moral discipline in the educational system.
According to a statement issued by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, PAUL DANGBOR, Doctor BANIGO observed that young people have become engrossed in watching movies and other irrelevant activities at the expense of their academic exercise.
The Deputy Governor said the trend has negatively impacted on the quality of graduates from academic institutions across Nigeria.
