This follows the inauguration of a teaching committee on modalities by the Commissioner for Education, Rivers state, Professor KANIYE EBEKU.

Professor EBEKU during the inauguration said that the introduction of teaching indigenous languages in various public schools will commence from the next academic session, as he charged the committee to come up with the number of languages to be taught per school and recommend effective ways to recruit competent teachers for the purpose.

The Commissioner further charged the Committee headed by the Director of Secondary Schools, SOKARI DAVIES to work out modalities with reference to the law passed by the Rivers State House of Assembly on indigenous languages.

Our correspondent, SANDRA KENNETH reports that the committee members are made up of five directors from the Ministry of Education and two Linguists to serve as external advisers.
