Rivers State Elders Blame FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for State’s Challenges

The Rivers State Elders and Leaders Forum has vocally criticized the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, attributing a range of issues plaguing the state to his actions, including the recent declaration of a state of emergency and the appointment of sole administrators in local government areas.

Chairman of the forum, Rufus Ada-George, condemned Wike, who previously served as the governor of Rivers State, accusing him of being the mastermind behind the ongoing setbacks faced by the state. “His actions can only be described as setting ablaze Rivers State,” Ada-George stated emphatically, highlighting the pervasive discontent among residents regarding recent administrative decisions.

Ada-George also expressed deep concerns over the legality of Wike’s appointments, asserting that it is unconstitutional for a sole administrator to appoint other sole administrators across the 23 local government areas, as well as the chairman and members of the state electoral commission. “These actions undermine the proper functioning of our democratic structures and are not in the best interest of our people,” he remarked.

The forum’s statements reflect a growing frustration among Rivers State residents who seek to restore legitimate governance and uphold constitutional mandates. As the dialogue continues, many are calling for accountability and a return to democratic norms within the state’s political landscape.
