The state Immunization Officer, Doctor Joseph Urang, who spoke during a media orientation to mark the commencement of the roll out of Rota vaccine in Rivers state, said the vaccine is free of charge in all government health facilities and in the private hospitals partnering with the state government.

The rota vaccine is being introduced into the Rivers state routine immunization process and is focused on the most vulnerable, which are children within the age range of six weeks to one year.

Children between this age bracket are expected to take three doses of the Rota vaccine at an interval window of every four weeks, to prevent severe illness and death.

Rotavirus remains the most common cause of diarrhea disease, and is highly contagious and it cannot be treated using antibiotics.

Today FM’s Ifunanya Obeme-Ndukwe reports the state Primary Health Care Management Board commenced the roll out of Rota vaccine on the 21st November, 2022.
