C.P ODESANYA informed the gathering of the new strategy adopted by the police for stop-and-search operations, which he said is geared towards recovery of illegal arms and arrest of criminals.

The Police Commissioner promised that the State Police Command under his leadership would be more proactive in response to crime reduction and prevention.

In his remarks; the Rivers State Director of National Orientation Agency, OLIVA WOLUGBOM appealed to traditional rulers to sensitize their subjects about the danger of engaging in criminal activities, and to report suspects to the authorities.

A former chairman of Ogbkor Ikwerre, Chief SAMPSON AGBARO who spoke on behalf of traditional rulers, criticized the police for always leaking the identity of informants.

Chief AGBARO said the police needed to protect those who provide information to them as a means to gain more support from the public in crime fighting and prevention.

Responding on behalf of religious leaders, CHIBUZOR CHINYERE called for clemency for any criminal who genuinely repent, as a means to help such a person get reabsorbed into society.
