The Rivers State Police Command says it has recorded a major breakthrough in the investigation into the murder of two police officers who were attacked while conducting a stop-and-search operation in the Aluu Division area on June 29, 2026. One of the officers sustained severe leg injuries during the attack, which later led to an amputation before his death.
In a statement, the Command said the attack claimed the lives of the two officers and led to the theft of their service AK-47 rifles. Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, visited the division and directed the deployment of the Command’s operational and intelligence assets to arrest those responsible and recover the stolen weapons.
The statement, signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, said operatives of the Command’s Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on the Commissioner’s directive, arrested three suspected members of the gang through intelligence-led and sustained tactical operations.
According to the police, the suspects are 34-year-old Maduabuchi Emeka, also known as “Doctor,” 42-year-old Chinedu Owhor from Akabuka in ONELGA, and Kamachi Joe, a native of Egbata Community in Omoku Local Government Area. The Command said three AK-47 rifles and one Scorpion rifle were recovered during the operation.
Police said the suspects have also been linked to other murder cases currently under investigation, adding that efforts are ongoing to arrest a fourth member of the gang who remains at large.
The statement quoted the Commissioner of Police as commending the operatives for their professionalism, courage, gallantry, and dedication, describing the arrests as a demonstration of the Command’s determination to ensure that those who attack police officers or engage in violent crimes have no hiding place in Rivers State.
Adepoju reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the policing agenda of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, aimed at protecting lives and property while ensuring that criminal elements are brought to justice.
The Commissioner also warned those involved in criminal activities to desist or face the full weight of the law, stressing that Rivers State is not a safe haven for criminals. He assured residents that the Command remains committed to identifying, arresting, and prosecuting anyone who threatens the peace and security of the state.
He further urged members of the public to continue partnering with the police by providing timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts to combat crime and improve public safety across Rivers State.
