The Rivers State Central Working Committee on Flood Management and Control has announced the commencement of a Simulation Exercise scheduled to run from today through Tuesday, August 26.
According to a statement from the committee, the exercise is being conducted in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and will take place in Mbiama, Ahoada West Local Government Area.
The committee said participation is mandatory for representatives of flood-prone local governments, including Andoni, Oyigbo, Eleme, Opobo-Nkoro, Ogu-Bolo, Gokana, Emohua, Tai, Khana, Etche, Bonny, Degema, Obio/Akpor, and Port Harcourt.
Local government administrators have been asked to nominate two observers each, especially for the session at Mbiama Bridge on Monday, August 25, while also ensuring participation on other days of the programme.
The committee identified Ahoada West, Ahoada East, Abua/Odual, and Onelga as the most affected LGAs within the Orashi region and urged their administrators, along with at least ten community representatives, to fully engage in all scheduled activities.
