A member of the management of the Rivers State College of Health Science and Management Technology, Promise Igoma, has called on the Rivers State Government to urgently address longstanding challenges affecting the development of the institution.
Igoma made the call during a visit by the State Commissioner for Education, Peters Nwagor, to the college. He raised concerns over inadequate infrastructure, including classrooms, toilet facilities and reliable electricity, while also calling for the employment of part-time lecturers who have served the institution for over ten years.
He further demanded greater transparency in the management of internally generated revenue and funds released for accreditation, while questioning the prolonged tenure of some principal officers, heads of departments and deans. Also speaking, ASUP Chairman at the college, Destiny Obinna, appealed for academic staff to be included in recently approved allowances for state-owned tertiary institutions. Responding, Commissioner Nwagor acknowledged the concerns and promised to present them to the governor for urgent intervention.
