According to a statement by the Chief Registrar, High Court of Rivers State, David Ihua-Maduenyi, the exercise is part of efforts to decongest the correctional facilities across the state.
The statement clarified that the exercise is in pursuant of the provision of Section One of the Criminal Justice Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and Section Thirty Four of the Rivers State Administration of Criminal Justice Law of 2015.
The Statement revealed how the Chief Judge had earlier, sent some Magistrates to the correctional facility in Port Harcourt, Ahoada and Degema, where a total of ninety inmates were released.
