Rights Lawyer Calls for Law to Criminalize Land Grabbing in Rivers

Human rights lawyer, Chetam Nwala, has called for legislation to criminalize land grabbing in Rivers State, warning that the growing trend of illegal land acquisition is discouraging investment and threatening economic development.

Nwala said the state government must take urgent steps to address the menace before it further undermines investor confidence and property rights.

He also urged the judiciary to establish strict timelines for the resolution of land disputes, arguing that prolonged litigation often creates opportunities for corruption.

The legal practitioner further called on the Rivers State Government to strengthen the enforcement of court judgments on land matters, alleging that some enforcement agencies have compromised the implementation of judicial decisions.
