Reps Push Bill to Make Appeal Court Final Arbiter in Governorship Election Petitions

A member of the House of Representatives, Bayo Balogun, has revealed that the green chamber is advancing a bill to amend the 1999 Constitution, proposing the Court of Appeal as the final authority on governorship election petitions in Nigeria.

Balogun, who chairs the House Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), disclosed this in an interview, explaining that the amendment would streamline the adjudication process.

According to him, the arrangement would mean that while state and National Assembly elections remain within the purview of election tribunals, presidential and governorship petitions would be concluded at the Court of Appeal.
