The move comes as suspected Al-Shabab militants launched a series of attacks, with two mortar rounds fired close to the venue where the vote will be held.
The indirect election will be decided by members of parliament who will gather at the airport in Mogadishu to choose a new head of state.
They will choose among more than twenty candidates who are vying to become Somali president, including incumbent President HASSAN SHEIKH MOHAMUD who is seeking for re-election.
Meanwhile; jihadists are reported to have attacked an African Union military base in Arbacow village, on the outskirts of Mogadishu.
