Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has apologized to Nigerians over the prolonged and severe electricity outages recorded in recent weeks. ⚡
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, Adelabu admitted that the ongoing blackout has worsened living conditions, particularly amid the intense dry-season heat being experienced across parts of the country.
The minister said the situation was caused by several factors beyond the control of the government, noting that efforts are ongoing to address the challenges affecting power supply.
Despite the disruptions, Adelabu assured citizens that electricity supply would soon improve, adding that authorities already have timelines for the completion of critical repairs.
He explained that some of the repairs involve facilities operated by Seplat Energy, which are expected to restore gas supply to electricity-generating plants and boost power generation once completed.
The minister expressed optimism that the restoration of gas supply and ongoing technical interventions would help stabilize the national grid and ease the current power shortages.
