Four members of the gang, who are mainly from the South-South, have also been arrested, including one High Chief OVIE OGO who hails from Omoku in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.

 

Force Public Relations Officer, JIMOH MOSHOOD, disclosed in a statement that the forty-seven-year-old man who holds the title of Eze Ireoma of Omoku-Rivers State, was arrested at a Hotel in Kaduna State

 

High Chief OVIE OGO is alleged to be a specialist in impersonation of prominent citizens from the South-South and South East.

 

Forty-year-old ABDULAZEEZ ERAGBE who is a native of Ikabigbo in Esako West Local Government Area of Edo State was also arrested for alleged impersonation of prominent citizens from the North, as he speaks Hausa fluently.

 

The third suspect is forty-nine-year-old BABATUNDE OSHAMOTO who is a native of Iyamoye, in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi who is allegedly crafted in the art of impersonating prominent citizens from the South West and North Central. 

 

Furthermore; the police also picked up SAMUEL IDAH who is twenty-five-years-old and hails from Uromi, in Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State. 

 

IDAH is accused of supplying mobile phone SIM cards registered with the names of prominent citizens to members of the alleged criminal syndicate.

 

The Force spokesman said the men were arrested with fourteen assorted mobile phone SIM cards registered with different names of senior government officials and prominent Nigerians.

 

He said a diary containing phone numbers of several top government officials and prominent persons in the country was also recovered from the suspects.

 

They men were cracked down on Wednesday in a coordinated operation by detectives attached to the Intelligence Response Team and the Technical Intelligence Unit after a painstaking and sustained surveillance.

 

He said all the suspects confessed to the crime, admitted to have impersonated several prominent citizens and made over twenty million naira from their criminal acts within the last six months.

 

JIMOH MOSHOOD said notable individuals that were allegedly impersonated by members of the gang include the Chief of Staff to President, the Senate President, National Security Adviser, the Minister of Petroleum, Minister of Finance, Minister of Transport, and Chief BOLA TINUBU.
