Plateau Protesters Shooting; Soldiers Opens Up

The protest was called in response to the murder of a prominent traditional ruler in Bokkos, Plateau State.

Reports say the protesters had setup road blocks, thereby preventing the troops from entering into the town.

But the spokesman of the Special Task Force, Captain IKEDICHI IWEHA, has denied that the soldiers were responsible for the deaths.

Instead, Captain IWEHA said it was some of the protesters fired shots at the soldiers, but the bullets hit fellow protesters.

Meanwhile; a twenty-four hour curfew has been imposed in Bokkos, which is located about one hundred kilometres from the state capital, Jos.

The Bokkos traditional ruler, LAZARUS AGAI, was murdered on Monday, together with his wife, his son and a bodyguard.

Their vehicle ran into an ambush by unknown gunmen on their way home from a farm.
