The newly elected National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki, on Tuesday called on U.S. President Donald Trump and the international community to “come and save democracy in Nigeria.”
Turaki made the appeal following a standoff between his faction and supporters of the Nyesom Wike-led bloc at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja. Addressing journalists after police and supporters of Senator Anyanwu attempted to prevent him and PDP governors from accessing the secretariat, Turaki criticized the police for dispersing party officials and journalists.
He further alleged that Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was involved in efforts to disrupt PDP activities and urged President Bola Tinubu to call Wike to order.
Turaki spoke alongside Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who were also present at the PDP headquarters during the address.
