Oyorokoto Residents Raise Alarm Over Gunmen’s Ultimatum in Andoni

Residents of Oyorokoto Community in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State have issued a distress call to security agencies, the Andoni Local Government Chairman, and the state government following reports that suspected gunmen have ordered them to vacate the island or face death.

The threat is coming amid a fresh clash between rival gang groups in neighbouring Opuwari Community, which reportedly resulted in the death of one gang member on Wednesday, January 22, 2026.

An eyewitness and resident of Oyorokoto Community, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent that fear generated by ongoing reprisal attacks has forced residents of Illotombi Town and Oyorokoto to flee their homes.

The source warned that unless urgent intervention is made, the unidentified gun group could overrun coastal communities, loot properties, and seize businesses in the area.

Efforts to get an official response from the Andoni Local Government Chairman, Lucky Promise Otuo, were unsuccessful, as he told our correspondent during a telephone conversation that he would get back to us.
