Our correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that ORUBEBE is facing a six-count charge, alongside an Assistant Director in the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, OLUDARE LAWRENCE, and a Director in Gitto Construction Nigeria Limited, EPHRAIM TEWOLDE.
The case is being prosecuted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, and ORUBEBE and the two others were due to be arraigned today before Justice OLUKAYODE ADENIYI of an Abuja High Court.
ICPC counsel, OSUOBENI AKPONIMISINGHA said ORUBEBE has already been served of the court processes, and expressed concern about his absence in court.
But ORUBEBE’s lawyer told the court that his client was absent in court because of ill health on account of a domestic accident that affected his ankle and wrist.
The two point three billion naira allegedly diverted by the accused persons was meant for the payment of compensation to property owners on the East-West Road before it was extended to a dual carriage way by the Federal Government.
