The apex socio cultural organization in Ogoniland, which is known as KAGOTE Worldwide, has now asked the Rivers State Government to reverse the name of the Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic to Rivers State Polytechnic.
KAGOTE said the state government could pick the option of renaming the newly converted Port Harcourt Polytechnic after an Ikwere personality.
It is the view of KOGOTE that such step would ensure balance and uniformity in the establishment of tertiary institutions in the state.
The group also proposed a third option, which is for KENPOLY to be upgraded to a university, or the renaming of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology after late KEN SAROWIWA.
KAGOTE President, PETER MEDEE made the demands while briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt.
MEDEE said with the suggested adjustment; KEN POLY in Bori would be able to compete favourably with other higher institutions in Rivers State.
KAGOTE also made a case for recalling of sacked lectures of KENPOLY, who were employed to enable some departments in the institution get accreditation.
Our correspondent CHINEDU IWUNNA reports that KAGOTE also expressed support for the protests in Bori against the establishment of a new polytechnic by the Rivers State government.
