Ogoni Community Leader Calls for Transparency on Oil Production Demands

Donald Gbereesu, President of the Ogoni Oil Bearing Communities, has called for the public disclosure of the demands made by the Ogoni people as conditions for the resumption of oil production in the region.

Gbereesu urged the Ogoni Dialogue Committee to publish the report it submitted to the presidency, emphasizing that transparency is essential for all Ogonis to see and assess.

He stated, “Making the demands public will enable Ogonis to know whether President Tinubu is truly implementing what was agreed upon and whether the community’s conditions are being met.”

The call for openness comes amid ongoing discussions about oil production resumption in Ogoni, a region historically affected by environmental degradation and resource control issues. Community leaders and stakeholders are keenly awaiting the release of the report to gauge progress and ensure that the community’s rights and concerns are adequately addressed.
