NUT formerly issue twenty-one days strike notice to Rivers State Government.

The decision was reached at an emergency state executive meeting of the NUT in Port Harcourt, which reviewed the outcome of a meeting between the leadership of the union and officials of the state government led by the Commissioner for Education.

Recall that leaders of the NUT had left the conciliatory meeting with the government officials on Tuesday looking stern and avoided speaking with newsmen.

At the NUT emergency meeting yesterday in Port Harcourt; the union leaders resolved to call out public school teachers for a full blown strike if the state government failed to pay all the outstanding salaries on the expiration of the 21-day deadline

State Chairman of NUT, LUCKY NKPOGONE who briefed newsmen on the outcome of their deliberation, announced that 8th October has been set aside as tentative date for the strike to begin.

NKPOGONE said the NUT decided to move the strike date from 12th September, as previously announced, because of the intervention by the state government and its agencies in the education sector.

Our correspondent, LEVI ISU reports that the NUT has directed public school teachers in Rivers State to resume work after the Sallah holiday next week.
