Rivers State Chairman of the NMA, Professor Chizindu Alikor, made the call at a media briefing in Port Harcourt, to kick start the 62nd Annual General Meeting of the NMA.
Professor Alikor, who was reacting to the recent deaths caused by measles in Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State, said diseases like measles should not cause death because immunization has been made available by the Rivers state government at no cost.
He said parents should not be scared to get their children fully immunized, noting that non-acceptance by the people poses a great threat to vaccination, even in the case of COVID-19.
Professor Alikor also reiterated the need for government at all levels to increase funding for the health sector in the country, stating that national budget for health in Nigeria is abysmally low.
Today FM’s Ifunanya Obeme-Ndukwe reports that a new state NMA Chairman is expected to emerge at the end of the Annual General Meeting of the health body.
