Rivers State Chairman of the NLC, Alex Agwanwor, emphasized that governors failing to meet payment obligations, especially given the nation’s harsh economic realities, are unfit for their roles.
In an interview on “Talk that Talk” program on Today 95.1 FM, Agwanwor highlighted that since the removal of fuel subsidy, federal allocations to states have notably increased, leaving no excuse for governors not to meet minimum wage requirements.
Agwanwor reaffirmed the NLC’s commitment to enforce whatever minimum wage amount is ultimately agreed upon with the Federal Government, stressing that any stance contrary to workers’ interests will be firmly opposed.
The National Minimum Wage Committee is made up of the Federal Government, the labor unions, organizations, and governors of the thirty six states.
The NLC is proposing six hundred and fifteen thousand Naira living minimum wage.
