Nigerian troops are reportedly engaged in battles on several fronts in the north-west of the country, where cattle rustling has become the order of the day.
The Nigerian Army said troops of Operation Sharan Daji are making gains against the criminals, who also engage in armed banditry and kidnapping.
The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel SANI USMAN said troops deployed in Zamfara State killed four rustlers, wounded sixteen and arrested three in various operations that led to the destruction of seven camps belonging to the criminals.The soldiers also recovered four hundred and eighty-six livestock, three AK-47 rifles and four AK-47 rifle magazines from the criminals.In similar operations in Katsina State, troops killed five rustlers, arrested two suspects and destroyed five camps. An AK-47 rifle, four locally made guns and twelve machetes were recovered from the criminals, as well as one hundred and sixteen livestock from, while one soldier sustained injury and is receiving treatment.Troops of Operation Sharan Daji who are stationed in Kaduna State also recovered three hundred and five livestock following raids on six camps.They also recovered two locally made pistols, killed two armed rustlers, and arrested seven suspected rustlers.One suspected rustler was killed in Doguwa forest in Kano State, while four hundred livestock were recovered from the criminals.
