Amadabo of Finima Escapes Assassination Attempt as Gunmen Attack Residence

The Amadabo of Finima in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, His Royal Highness Aseme Alabo Dagogo Lambert-Brown, has escaped an alleged assassination attempt on his life.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, August 22, 2026, when suspected hoodlums reportedly opened sporadic gunfire at the building housing the monarch’s living quarters and other households.

The Amadabo was reportedly not at home when the gunmen attacked. However, some members of the household sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospitals for emergency medical treatment.

Condemning the attack, Aseme Alabo Dagogo Lambert-Brown said the community had received intelligence reports about the alleged importation of hoodlums into Finima.

The monarch accused the Bonny Traditional Authorities of sponsoring a faction of the Tobin Chieftaincy House to cause mayhem in the community, alleging that the attack was aimed at intimidating him and his administration.

He called on law enforcement agencies to urgently investigate the incident, identify those behind the attack and bring them to justice.

Speaking after visiting the scene, Chairman of Bonny Local Government Council, Abiye Blessing-Pepple, condemned the incident and urged security agencies to ensure the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.

The council chairman also cancelled all events scheduled to take place in Finima on Saturday in view of the security situation.

Meanwhile, the Amadabo-in-Council of the Buoye Omuso Brown Founding and Ruling House of Finima had earlier expressed concerns over alleged efforts by the Bonny Chiefs Council, led by Se-Alabo Dagogo Soala Claude-Wilcox, to support a faction of the Tobin Chieftaincy House.

In a statement, the council said such actions could cause unrest and threaten the peace in Finima, particularly around August 22 and October 31, 2026.

The concerns followed a press statement issued by the Bonny Chiefs Council on August 17, which the Amadabo-in-Council said could trigger actions capable of threatening the stability and peace of the community.

Security authorities are expected to investigate the attack and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
