NEMA, Rivers Government Pledge Collaboration to Tackle Flooding

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has assured of continued collaboration with the Rivers State Government and other relevant agencies to mitigate the effects of flooding across the state.

The South-South Zonal Director of NEMA, Dr. Chidi Ogbundu, gave the assurance during a visit by the State Flood Management Committee to the desilting site of the Rumukrushi River in Port Harcourt.

Dr. Ogbundu said the agency remains committed to working closely with the state government and stakeholders to reduce the impact of flooding on communities, adding that early interventions and preventive measures are key to effective disaster management.

In his response, the President General of the Orashi National Congress, Emeni Ibe, who was specially invited for the visit by the Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Odu, commended both the state government and NEMA for their proactive steps.

He praised the planned tour of the Orashi region aimed at distributing palliatives to flood victims and assessing affected communities, describing it as a demonstration of genuine concern for residents impacted by flooding.
